To the Cape
Last year during a fleeting weekend down south for a wedding, without children in tow, we managed to snare a last minute booking at the restaurant at Cape Lodge.
We had been using The West’s Good Food Guide to call a few restaurants on the drive from Perth, finding most either shut or booked out. Staying in Busselton, it suddenly dawned on me we should try Cape Lodge, even if it was a bit of a drive.
It had been many years since we had visited Cape Lodge and even more since we had stayed there (try about 1996!).
According to their website the restaurant has been “Voted in the Top Ten in the World for Food in Conde Naste Traveller’s Gold List, the restaurant is being described as one of Australia’s finest new generation dining establishments.”
Chef Tony Howell had also featured on MasterChef Australia during season three’s visit to WA.
So off we went, low on petrol and completely forgetting the fact that servos are few and far between down south and those that are there – don’t open late.
Eek. It was a nerve-racking time!
The food, which changes daily based on seasonal produce, didn’t disappoint. Who can go past fresh WA seafood?
Hopefully it won’t take me another 10+ years to return.
